For a holiday in Ridder, holders of a full British citizen passport can currently enter Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism or business. If you travel on another passport, plan to stay longer or have a different purpose of travel, your route may involve visa-free entry, an electronic visa or a consular visa.

Kazakhstan entry requirements for Ridder: the short answer
Here is the simplest way to see which entry option fits your trip:
Visa-free entry: for eligible nationalities and passport types, within the permitted purpose and length of stay.
Electronic visa: for eligible nationals whose application, documents and entry point meet the conditions for their itinerary.
Consular visa: for travellers who are not covered by visa-free entry or the relevant electronic visa arrangements.
Check your nationality and passport type in Kazakhstan’s MFA visa-regime table. Visa-free entry and an e-visa are separate routes: if your passport qualifies for visa-free travel and your visit remains within its conditions, the existence of an e-visa does not mean you need to apply for one.
UK passport holders: visa-free visits and stay limits
Holders of a full British citizen passport can currently visit Kazakhstan without a visa for tourism or business for up to 30 days. Repeated visa-free visits must not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period, according to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office entry guidance.
This allowance does not automatically cover longer stays, work or another purpose of travel. British nationals using a different class of British passport need to follow the rule attached to that particular document.
If you hold a full British citizen passport and your visit is for tourism or business within the 30-day allowance, you do not need to apply for an e-visa. Your passport, purpose of travel, dates and route must still meet the current visa-free conditions.
If you need a Kazakhstan visa: check the official route for your nationality
If your passport is not covered by visa-free entry, check what applies to your nationality and visa category. Invitation letters, photographs, fees and supporting documents vary by application route rather than applying universally to every traveller.
For Kazakhstan’s eGov visa process, register through the government system, enter an invitation number where applicable, complete the application, pay the relevant consular fee and print the approved e-visa. Applications are made through the Visa and Migration Portal.
The fee and supporting documents depend on the application. Allow enough time for corrections and avoid planning around same-day approval.
Under Kazakhstan’s eGov guidance, an e-visa is issued to one individual traveller and does not extend to accompanying relatives or other group members. Each visa-required traveller needs permission issued in their own name.
E-visas and arrival airports: confirm your itinerary before booking
If you are travelling with an e-visa, confirm that your planned entry point accepts it before purchasing a non-refundable ticket. Kazakhstan’s guidance on airport checkpoints is not fully aligned.
An earlier Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-visa guide names Astana and Almaty international airports. The current eGov instructions refer more broadly to checkpoints at international airports, as does a recent Ministry of Foreign Affairs notice.
Because this guidance differs, do not assume that an e-visa is either accepted or excluded at Öskemen or another particular airport. Seek itinerary-specific direction from the Visa and Migration Portal or the Kazakhstan diplomatic mission handling your application. The same care applies if you intend to enter at a land border.
Visa-free travellers should separately ensure that their nationality and passport type are eligible at the intended point of entry. The uncertainty around e-visa checkpoints does not change a visa-free visitor into an e-visa holder.
Passport, printed documents and host notification
For holders of a full British citizen passport, the FCDO guidance for Kazakhstan currently requires the passport to remain valid for at least 30 days from the date of arrival and contain at least one blank page. If you hold a Kazakhstan visa, your passport must expire at least three months after the visa expiry date.
Other passport holders, and anyone applying for a visa, should follow the passport-validity and blank-page rules for their own document and application route.
If you receive an e-visa, carry a printed copy. Kazakhstan’s eGov instructions require the printed document to be presented with your passport at border control. Enter your passport information exactly as it appears in the travel document and review the approved visa for errors before departure.
The receiving party, such as accommodation or another host, must notify Kazakhstan’s migration service of a foreign national’s arrival within three working days. The visitor does not submit this notification personally, under Kazakhstan’s entry and stay guidance. Make sure you know which accommodation or host will act as the receiving party for your visit.
Getting from Öskemen to Ridder Lodge
Ridder Lodge, the accommodation at Altai Mountains Resort, is in Ulba village near Ridder in the Western Altai of East Kazakhstan. The address is 65 Shosseynaya Street, Ulba village, Ridder 071300.
Öskemen is the usual regional airport connection for the road journey to Ridder. From there, the distance is approximately 120 kilometres and the drive takes around 1.5–2 hours. Conditions and the day’s route can affect the journey time; you can explore the location and route to Ridder while planning your arrival.

Ask us to confirm availability, timing, meeting details and the applicable price for your dates. Flight schedules and connections are best reviewed directly with the airline.

Before you set off, check the entry option for your passport, make sure it covers the purpose and length of your stay, confirm your airport or border crossing, and have any printed documents ready. Government requirements, fees, application procedures and transport schedules can change, so revisit them shortly before you travel.
